The picturesque village of Shaldon is situated at the mouth of the river Teign. The quaint, unspoilt village is full of character with narrow streets winding their way through thatched cottages and Georgian houses - all tightly packed at the edge of the estuary. Shaldon was formed as silt was washed down the river Teign over the centuries and the land was reclaimed to form the village we see today.
The estuary beach is sandy with views across to Teignmouth - a small passenger ferry will take you across to Teignmouth taking just a few minutes to arrive in the busier seaside town with many more shops, restaurants and a pier. Shaldon also has a larger beach (Ness beach) found by going through the "Smugglers Tunnel" and this has views out to sea.
